You are a Child of God, Not a Political Lemming

Here it is, Election Day 2019 in the United States. Like every year at this time, rhetoric has been firing from political lemming pundits on both sides of the aisle. Unfortunately, this milestone marks that we are less than a year until the big presidential 2020 election. Prepare for an onslaught of craziness over the next 12 months!

I think that we all can agree that the country seems to be more divided than ever when it comes to national politics. Both sides have dug their heels in with unwavering support of their side, their policies and candidates. Centrists and independents seem to have less and less of a voice. The state of things may be fascinating from a psychological point of view, but it is sad in terms of policy, integrity and especially spirituality. What role does absolute truth have in politics anymore?

It is easy to get caught up in all of this, and get sucked into an “us vs. them” scenario. We all have our political beliefs and leanings. However, we must take care not to primarily identify ourselves as Democrat, Republican, Progressive, or whatever… Our true identity is that of being a son or daughter of God. It is he who loves us unconditionally and calls us to find Truth though Jesus Christ. As far as politics go, we must always search out truth the best we can, with the understanding that no political party is completely right or wrong.

There is not much conversation going on. Each side only listens to those providing supporting evidence of what they already believe. Anything contrary is considered to not only be false, but hateful, misleading or purposely untruthful. It seems that there is little interest in the American public to take time to dissect the issues and try to come to agreement within the nuances and gray areas. Hopefully this is not the case – hopefully there is a large silent majority out there that is not represented by the media.

Don’t be a political lemming: your value is much more than that!
