Spiritual Resolutions for 2020
Well, the New Year is here… Each year at this time many of us create resolutions to mark a fresh start. Many people resolve to improve themselves physically: to eat better, go to the gym, lose weight, etc. Others vow to spend more time helping others, or focusing on themselves more to alleviate stress or improve quality of life.
These are all well and good, and are set into motion with great intentions. However, as most of us realize, these typically fade away within a few months, or even weeks. We are creatures of habit, and it is difficult to change.
How often do you hear of people making spiritual resolutions for 2020? Not often, I am guessing. These would be defined actions that we can take to improve our relationship with God, to improve our spiritual life and bring more meaning to our lives. It is interesting how much attention people give to things that will pass away, but how little to things that are eternal.
This year, make spiritual resolutions for 2020! Here are some ideas to consider, ideas that may vary depending on where you are in your spiritual journey:
Resolve to:
- Attend Mass or Service every Sunday
- Attend Mass or Service during the week, one or more times per week.
- Read Scripture daily
- Spend 10 minutes before bed in quiet prayer
- Help at a local food bank or shelter
- Become involved with a ministry at church
- Break a sinful habit
While these ideas are hardly unique or new, such resolutions are often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of daily life in a secular society. Make improving your relationships with your Heavenly Father, Jesus your Savior and your Advocate, the Holy Spirit a priority in 2020! Rest assured, 100 years from now, it won’t matter how often you went to the gym this year, but spiritual virtues are eternal…
